Rainy days

Photos of Paris - Spirit of Paris

Hopelessly waiting for the sun. And doing it the french way, in a café.

Countryside in Paris

Photos of Paris - Spirit of Paris

In the heart of Paris, in the Jardin des Plantes, the botanical garden, a small piece of ground was left unattended on purpose, just to show us that life and grass can still find their way in the middle of a city.
The result is a small field of alfalfa. Even the small animals found a new home and have now a life on their own. Only the cows are missing.

Place des Vosges

Photos of Paris - Spirit of Paris

Royal square dedicated to Louis XIII, this place bears the name of the french district, “les Vosges“, who became the first to pay the revolutionary and republican taxes. It’s the oldest square in Paris, early build by HenriIV from 1605 to 1612.

Victor Hugo used to live in Place des Vosges, n° 6.

Champs Elysees, fields of lights

Photos of Paris - Spirit of Paris

A lot of things changed since Marie de Medicis decided to create this avenue just to give her a perspective view from her windows of the Louvre.
Now we have fields of cars bringing harvests of lights. Always on the move under the wind of modernity.

This shot was taken during the nuit blanche (october, 7th ). That’s why one of the “Chevaux de Marly” is dressed in blue.

Pont de Crimee

Photo of Paris - Spirit of Paris

There’s not only the Seine in Paris. There is the Canal Saint Martin. Digged in the 19th century to bring some water to Paris, this canal is now used to fetch materials or as a promenade by touristical boats.

On the north east side of Paris, this bridge is the only elevating one. In order to let the boats get through the bridge open up, lifted by four cables rolling on the four wheels. Beside there is a pedestrian bridge with these typical steps and lamposts.

The cow of the Moulin Rouge

For two months, till june 26th 2006, Vach’art exposes more than 150 cows in the most touristical places of Paris. Hard to find some good grass for most of them !
This one is in the front of the Petit Palais and looks typical french. It may be the next dancing star of the Moulin Rouge, the famous cabaret of Montmartre.

Nothing changed in Belleville

Some streets of Belleville, a north east area of Paris, did not changed for years. The small industries left Paris years ago. Many artists turned factories into workshops. They live now in quiet backyards where grass can still grow between cobblestones.

Some streets as rue Moinon or rue Sainte Marthe seem they didn’t change for years, keeping Belleville a village.

Tooth brushing on Blancs Manteaux

Walking along, I found this man posting bills on a street art exhibit center. After the last november events in Paris suburb, the young guys decided to show an other face of them, less hard, less aggressive and much more communicative. The result is a bunch of photos exposed in this art center.
