In the Louvre there is a courtyard dedicated to restoration of statues. Day after day, a few students and specialists clean and fix greek and roman works to be shown again. Public can follow this activity through the bars of the gates. This statue seems ready to get out and to start a new life, as soon the keepers will free it. By the way, Paris is not only a 26 years old heiress but the King of Troy in greek mythology. |

Great photo, good joke. This could be Helen, who Paris “stole” from her husband and took to Troy. (Actually, his father, Prius, was king, Paris was a prince at the time, though I suppose he became king after Prius and Hector, the oldest son, were killed by the Greeks.) Remember that Paris also was the one who awarded a golden apple for being the most beautiful in a contest. This from Wikipedia:
Zeus held a banquet in celebration of the marriage of Peleus and Thetis. Left off the guest list was Eris (goddess of discord), and upon turning up uninvited she threw or rolled a golden apple into the ceremony, with the inscription which said: καλλίστῃ or, “for the fairest one”. Three goddesses claimed the apple: Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. Zeus decided that Paris of Troy would judge their cases. Each of the goddesses offered Paris a gift. Hera would give him power, Athena would make him wise, and Aphrodite offered him the love of the world’s most beautiful woman, Helen. Paris chose Aphrodite, and Helen’s leaving of her previous husband precipitated the Trojan War.
And the Greeks were so upset, they sailed against Troy, beginning the war. And thus, Helen had “the face that launched a thousand ships.” Paris Hilton is cute, she probably merits a yacht or two…
