The bridge Simone de Beauvoir

It is not every day that Paris has a new bridge. This is the 37 th.
Let me introduce to you the bridge Simone de Beauvoir. This bridge looks like a roller coaster on the photo, but it is only an optical illusion. The architect, Dietmar Feichtinger, wanted to give this bridge the curves of a women. A tribute to femimity depicted so well by Simone de Beauvoir. RFR, a Paris based team of engineers worked on the sketch design of this bridge. And guess where this bridge is leading to ? To the French National Library (Tres Grande Bibliotheque). |

At night, the lighting comes from under the handrails. No lamp posts break the elegant lines.

Just a note: de Beauvoir was not married to Sartre although they were lovers/friends for most of their adult lives.
Great photos!

Wow, nice looking bridge. I am so disappointed that I missed this bridge on my last visit to Paris in June.

Beautiful design. But I don’t recognize the area at all. Where is it?

a beautiful bridge, though i wonder how De Beauvoir would have felt about it being modeled on the curves of a woman, considering how she discussed woman as the subject and the other in her writings, it just sort of makes her the subject again!

Perhaps RFR worked on that bridge. But it was concieved by a young austrian architect called Dichter Fechtinger who won the competition and now works in Paris. He has also conceived three footbridges for Strasbourg (now under construction).

To answer #5, the bridge is located on the river bank next to the French National Library.
I was there when it was still under construction and it was beautiful then, now it’s absolutely gorgeous.
